David Raber

Name: David Raber

Title: Chief Administrative Officer

Contact: draber@arizona.wish.org

Before joining Make-A-Wish Arizona: I spent the majority of my career working in State and Local Government. My 20+ year career working for the State of Arizona culminated in positions as Director of two large state agencies - the Arizona Department of Administration and the Arizona Department of Revenue. More recently, I worked in executive leadership for Cochise County in Bisbee, Arizona.

Education: I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Arizona State University (Go Devils!) and am licensed as a Certified Public Accountant.

About me: I’ve been happily married to my wife, Heidi for over 30 years. We have two grown Children (Kyle and Nikki), both living in the Phoenix area and are now “empty nesters” with the exepti0n of our two labradoodles, Hershey and Mika. We love getting out and enjoying the great outdoors of Arizona in our spare time.

My favorite thing about working at Make-A-Wish Arizona: I love hearing stories from our staff and volunteers about the wishes we have granted or are currently working to grant, I love meeting our wish kids and their families, and I love working around a great, dedicated team.

My wish would be: My wife and I were fortunate to spend 2016 in south-eastern Arizona where we lived in a guest house on a sprawling horse and cattle ranch.   It was there that I could see how much joy the horses brought to my wife, Heidi (and me too!).  I wish I could give her the gift of a horse ranch with several of those special creatures in our own back yard!

"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill. It will make or break a company ... a church ... a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude ... I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me, and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you." ”
