A young cancer survivor got the surprise of her life when Rural Metro firefighters showed up at her house and named her an honorary firefighter. Kaylee, 13, has been battling leukemia but is now in remission. Imagine Kaylee’s surprise when she answered a knock at her door Monday and found herself face to face with a trio of Rural Metro firefighters. Representing the “Spirit of a Hero” in her battle with cancer, Kaylee was named an honorary firefighter by Rural Metro Fire Crew Station 842.

10-year-old Harry was at a Scottsdale Community College football game when he was called out onto the field and told his wish was coming true to meet Texans defensive end J.J. Watt! Harry, who has an interstitial lung disease, got to watch the Texans and Chiefs warm up before Sunday's game, and he watched Watt stretch and practice one-handed catches on the sideline. Then it was his turn. Watt brought Harry onto the field to play catch and chat, also giving him the game ball.

Little Veronica is battling a life-threatening condition but thanks to Make-A-Wish Arizona she was able to take a trip to the happiest place on earth. It may be early in the morning but 5-year-old Veronica isn't even close to being tired. Her wish granters decked her out with the best Belle gear and are sending Veronica and her family on an American Airlines flight to Walt Disney World for a week.

Make-A-Wish Arizona, the founding chapter of the international wish granting organization, raised more than $260,000 toward future Arizona wishes through the 2016 Phoenix Walk For Wishes presented by Isagenix.

It was not going to be a typical day at Cienega High School for a freshman Connor, when he found out his wish was coming true. Connor, 14, had been battling an aggressive form of lymphoma since he was diagnosed in November but in March, Henderson found out his cancer is in remission. His friends, family, and Make-A-Wish Arizona surprised him at school to share his wish to swim with dolphins along the coast of Maui was granted!

But many people are surprised to hear the organization was founded right here in Arizona. It all started with a 7-year-old boy named Chris, who was diagnosed with leukemia and wanted to be a police officer when he grew up. Make-A-Wish Arizona always loves new, creative ways to raise funds for future Arizona wish kids. 

Share with us your plans for a fundraiser to benefit Make-A-Wish Arizona by contacting Erin Mortensen, External Events Manager.

Whenever a group or individual is proposing to raise funds for our organization, our national office requires the completion of the Special Event Proposal and Licensing Agreement before you can associate Make-A-Wish with the event, so please contact the chapter to discuss your event idea.
