Wish kid Austin, who has always dreamed of publishing a book, began keeping a journal when he was diagnosed with stage-four non-Hodgkins lymphoma at 15 years old. While undergoing a year of chemotherapy treatments, his writing eventually led to an idea for a novel. Austin, who is now cancer-free, learned during a surprise reveal at his school that his wish to have his book published is coming true!

At age 3, Lucas was diagnosed with leukemia, but today it's all smiles as he learns his Make-A-Wish Arizona wish is granted! Lucas' wish is to go to Universal Studios to have a meet-and-greet with Spongebob Squarepants. So Make-A-Wish Arizona threw him an ice cream party with all his friends to tell him the good news. But it's hard to tell who's more excited, Lucas or his wish granters, who got to see his reaction to his wish come true.

One well-known Gilbert neighborhood's Christmas-lights display started Thursday night. Located near Elliot and Higley roads, "Christmas on Comstock" won the $50,000 grand prize during ABC'S "The Great Christmas Light Fight" last year. The 13 adjacent homes feature more than 110,000 lights, 50,000 feet of wire, 300-plus strobes, and various snow machines and other attractions spread out among the block, with all donations benefiting Make-A-Wish Arizona.

A rare, big wish is beginning to come true for a Valley boy who has gone through more than 10 surgeries. Nikolas, who has lived a life full of medical emergencies, found out his wish to meet Pope Francis is granted! In fact, Nikolas said it was his angels who encouraged him to pick his wish.

As the season of giving begins, Make-A-Wish Arizona has once again partnered with the students and staff at Coyote Ridge Elementary to kick off the 9th annual Macy's Believe campaign. From the beginning of November through Dec. 24, “Believers” of all ages can mail a letter to Santa at the big red letterbox at any local Macy’s store, or online at macys.com/believe. For every letter received, in store or online, Macy’s will donate $1 to Make-A-Wish.

When he and his peers went outside they saw Darth Vader, who is Elijah's favorite movie character. He then was told his wish was coming true to go on a Disney cruise.

While gradually growing her hair back after undergoing chemotherapy and radiation the past two years, wish kid Jamie is a freshman swimming for the first time. She does the 50-yard freestyle, the 100 backstroke and relays, mostly in smaller dual meets. For the big invitationals, she is the team’s biggest cheerleader, everybody’s inspiration. Her cancer is now in remission.

A young cancer survivor got the surprise of her life when Rural Metro firefighters showed up at her house and named her an honorary firefighter. Kaylee, 13, has been battling leukemia but is now in remission. Imagine Kaylee’s surprise when she answered a knock at her door Monday and found herself face to face with a trio of Rural Metro firefighters. Representing the “Spirit of a Hero” in her battle with cancer, Kaylee was named an honorary firefighter by Rural Metro Fire Crew Station 842.

10-year-old Harry was at a Scottsdale Community College football game when he was called out onto the field and told his wish was coming true to meet Texans defensive end J.J. Watt! Harry, who has an interstitial lung disease, got to watch the Texans and Chiefs warm up before Sunday's game, and he watched Watt stretch and practice one-handed catches on the sideline. Then it was his turn. Watt brought Harry onto the field to play catch and chat, also giving him the game ball.

Little Veronica is battling a life-threatening condition but thanks to Make-A-Wish Arizona she was able to take a trip to the happiest place on earth. It may be early in the morning but 5-year-old Veronica isn't even close to being tired. Her wish granters decked her out with the best Belle gear and are sending Veronica and her family on an American Airlines flight to Walt Disney World for a week.

Make-A-Wish Arizona always loves new, creative ways to raise funds for future Arizona wish kids. 

Share with us your plans for a fundraiser to benefit Make-A-Wish Arizona by contacting Erin Mortensen, External Events Manager.

Whenever a group or individual is proposing to raise funds for our organization, our national office requires the completion of the Special Event Proposal and Licensing Agreement before you can associate Make-A-Wish with the event, so please contact the chapter to discuss your event idea.
