October Volunteer of the Month: Mindi Carlisle

Mindi has a very special place in her heart for giving. Three years ago she was looking to get more involved in the community. Her job at Discover, a Make-A-Wish Arizona workplace giving partner, led her to volunteer as a wish granter.

“Working with a variety of children and navigating their different and unique personalities to discover what wish they want is one of the best parts about being a wish granter,” she said.

Mindi has been involved with numerous wishes: I wish to go to Paris and I wish to have a climbing room are a few of her favorites.

“It is incredible to see the involvement and willingness to give from others,” she explained when talking about one of the wishes she helped grant for a young boy who wanted a sports court at his house. “When you tell someone you are working with to help grant a wish, people are so eager to help. Everyone in the community wants to get involved.”

Mindi Carlisle is the October 2016 Volunteer of the Month.

Mindi is passionate about the children she grants wishes for and loves that she can help to create an incredible experience that exceeds all of their expectations.

“We can take it so far and above, make it so incredible, that they can’t help but enjoy themselves. We can remind these children that they are still kids despite the hardships they face,” Mindi said.

She knows the lasting effect that wishes have on children, and says that being able to provide hope and joy to families at the times that they need it the most is what makes her so dedicated.

“I love being able to serve the families, and be a support system for them," she said. "Giving them a break and helping them forget about the bad, even if it is just for a brief moment in time, is incredible."

Discover has been very supportive of Mindi’s commitment to Make-A-Wish Arizona. As a company, they encourage community involvement and reward volunteerism. She is grateful that her company has a corporate culture that supports giving back and having fun while you’re doing it.

“At work, I can send out an email asking for help regarding a wish, and whoever can get involved, will! The positivity is contagious,” she explained regarding how her entire company is eager to help in different ways.

Mindi loves knowing that she is helping the families and wish kids in their time of need, but she also stays involved because of how giving back makes her feel.

“Make-A-Wish Arizona gives regular people like me the opportunity to give back and really make a difference,” she said.

Mindi’s dedication to granting wishes in the Phoenix area is critical to the success of our mission. We couldn’t do it without volunteers like you, Mindi! Thank you for your commitment and hard work in granting wishes!
