From the moment the limo pulled up in front of wish kid Peyton’s house, she thought she was a celebrity.
Wishes make kids battling life-threatening illnesses feel special when they need it the most, and that is the exact V.I.P feeling Peyton experienced on her wish.
Peyton, who was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect, wished to swim with dolphins after seeing the movie Dolphin Tale.
"The prosthetic tail the dolphin had drawn her to love dolphins. She always pretends to be a dolphin in the pool," explained Peyton's mom, Melissa.
After a visit with her volunteer wish granters to talk about what she envisioned, Peyton said she wished to swim with dolphins. She wished for her experience to be in Hawaii, so her adventure could also feature snorkeling, fishing, and pineapple picking, with her dolphin encounter.
"My husband and I heard about her wish every day for two months leading up to the trip," said Melissa. "There wasn't a bad moment from when the limo picked us up at our door to when we were dropped back off."
"I was so excited!" said Peyton. "I got to see sharks in tanks and dolphins! They were jumping up and down!"
Peyton even gave the dolphin a name, Winter, after the dolphin in her favorite movie, Dolphin Tale.
And Peyton had more sea life encounters when they spotted a sea turtle on their hotel's beach. "From a distance, we were able to swim with the sea turtle, which was an unexpected surprise," Melissa said.
In the evening, the family was treated to a luau at Chief's Luau, which is an interactive traditional Hawaiian dinner filled with dancing, a chicken to chase for Peyton, and a surprise blessing from one of the performers.
"Peyton danced through the whole show in front of the stage, she loved it," said Melissa.
The performers brought Peyton and her father, James, up on stage where she received a Hawaiian traditional blessing. "The experience was beyond anything, it's emotional for us that so many people care for our daughter. It's heartwarming to see."
"Seeing her excited was the best part for us," said Melissa. "Even though the wish is over when she talks about it, it brightens her day."
"The wish had a lasting impact on our family in more ways than one; having these positive memories with our daughter is something we will forever be thankful for," said Melissa. "Peyton's wish experience is something she will always talk about, and now that she is home, Peyton talks about going back to Hawaii to give her new friend, Winter, a kiss!"
