Brett was no stranger to battling a dark and menacing force when his wish to fight Darth Vader was granted in 2012.
For the past 10 months, the resilient 5-year-old was fighting Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia and still enduring chemotherapy for treatment.
So when Make-A-Wish Arizona approached Brett about his one true wish, he decided to channel his inner strength for a new battle he could get excited about – taking on Darth Vader at Walt Disney World.
“It meant becoming a Jedi,” said Brett. “I was so excited but I had to practice my lightsaber skills!”
After many months of treatment, Brett finally had the freedom to play, travel, and, naturally, battle the leader of the fictional evil Empire. His favorite part during his wish was meeting the iconic Star Wars characters for the first time.
“I met Darth Vader, the Storm Troopers and the Jedi trainers!” Brett said.
The fearless warrior even took on some daunting rides while he was there, like the Tower of Terror.
“I went on it over and over – a total of five times!” said Brett. “We even had special passes to be in the front of the line!”
Brett’s mom, Lisa, said the trip to Walt Disney World was a much needed break for the entire family.
“Having the ability to stop thinking about appointments, pills, surgery, hospital stays, restrictions and cancer, even if it was just for one week, was such a treat!” said Lisa. “It gave us a chance to just spend time together having fun, laughing and bonding.”
And just like his triumph over Darth Vader, Brett won his battle with cancer after two-and-a-half years.
“Brett’s cancer and treatment was definitely a huge challenge, but his wish helped us during the process and gave us a positive experience we can always remember,” Lisa said.
