SCOTTSDALE (April 14, 2016) – Make-A-Wish® Arizona is proud to announce that the chapter has earned a valued 4-star rating on Charity Navigator. The 4-star rating is given to charities for sound fiscal management, commitment to accountability and commitment to transparency. This is the first time Make-A-Wish Arizona has earned this top distinction.
“Receiving four out of a possible four stars indicates that the organization adheres to good governance and other best practices that minimize the chance of unethical activities and consistently executes its mission in a fiscally responsible way” shared Michael Thatcher, president and CEO of Charity Navigator.
Charity Navigator uses objective, data-driven analysis, focused on governance and ethical practices as well as measures of openness, to its ratings methodology. These metrics reveal which charities have “best practices” that minimize the chance of unethical activities and whether they freely share information about their organization with their donors and other stakeholders. Only about a quarter of the charities analyzed receive the 4-star rating.
“Make-A-Wish Arizona works hard to ensure that our vision to grant the wish of every eligible child in Arizona remains our top focus,” said Elizabeth Reich, president and CEO of Make-A-Wish Arizona. “We want our supporters, both individual and corporate, to know that their donations – of time, dollars, goods or services – are used in the most fiscally responsible way so we can reach the most Arizona children with life-threatening medical conditions and grant their wishes.”
