PHOENIX – The third annual Arizona Concours d’Elegance, a rare car show featuring specialty automobiles and judging, raised more than $73,000 for future Make-A-Wish Arizona wish kids through the generosity of both participants and attendees.
This year’s event, held at the Arizona Biltmore, hosted a collection of 99 select vintage automobiles. More than 28 winners of special and featured classes were announced at the event Sunday, January 24. One class winner, the 1935 Duesenberg SJ Special known as the “Mormon Meteor,” was named Best of Show.
The Concours also featured a special Make-A-Wish Wish Kid Trophy, designed by Mark Scalpone of Vintage Iron & Restorations, which was presented to the 1959 Hank Henry Super Modified, Arizona Open Wheel Racing Museum, Phoenix. This car was selected by 16 wish kid judges who attended specialized training to determine their winner.
“I cannot get believe I get to see all of these cars in person, and touch them and talk with the people who restored them and keep them so perfect,” said wish kid judge Zane, 18.
Zane’s wish was to have his 1973 Chevrolet truck restored so he was in awe of the many makes and models in the Concours. “Picking a winner was a very hard decision, for sure,” he continued.
“This is the third year we have been a part of the Arizona Concours d’Elegance and the impact their organizers, their participants, and their attendees have on future Arizona wish kids is significant,” said Elizabeth Reich, president and chief executive officer of Make-A-Wish Arizona. “With the money raised at this event, we can grant seven very special wishes for children with life-threatening medical conditions here in Arizona.”
Make-A-Wish Arizona, has been the beneficiary of the Arizona Concours d’Elegance for the past three years. In total, the Concours has raised more than $170,000 to support Arizona wish kids.
“The Arizona Concours d’Elegance is proud to have Make-A-Wish Arizona as the beneficiary of its event,” said Kevin Cornish, director of the Arizona Concours d’Elegance. “Everyone who comes to enjoy the spectacular array of cars from the past helps to make future wishes come true for these very special children.”
A date has already been announced for the 2017 Arizona Concours d’Elegance. Mark your calendars for January 15, 2017 at the Arizona Biltmore Resort.
