Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation awards $100,000 Grand Slam Grant

Make-A-Wish® Arizona was awarded a $100,000 Grand Slam Grant from the Arizona Diamondback Foundation on March 31 during the 10th Annual Evening on the Diamond.

“We are so excited to continue our partnership with the Arizona Diamondbacks, who have always stepped up to the plate when a wish kid is involved,” said Elizabeth Reich, president and CEO of Make-A-Wish Arizona. “Their support enbles us to continue toward our goal of granting the wish of every eligible child in Arizona.”

Make-A-Wish Arizona is the founding chapter of the international organization, which grants wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. The chapter is on track to grant 365 wishes this year for Arizona children. The average cost of a wish is approximately $10,000; therefore, the grant will help more than 10 Arizona children with life-threatening medical conditions have their one true wish.

The event was with a western-themed celebration that included auctions, awards, the creation of a new scholarship and a concert by country singer Cole Swindell for more than 800 attendees at Chase Field. More than $1.8 million was raised, and the D-backs awarded more than $1 million to the organizations.

The award was also renamed the Ken Kendrick Grand Slam Awards in honor of the club's owner.

“We are excited to surprise Make-A-Wish Arizona with $100,000 to help fulfill the wishes of 10 children facing life-threatening medical conditions through our Ken Kendrick Grand Slam Awards,” said Derrick Hall, president and CEO of the Arizona Diamondbacks. “Make-A-Wish has such a profound impact on children here in Arizona and we are proud to support their efforts of fulfilling dreams and providing much needed hope and strength to battle for life.”
