“It was the most humbling experience I’ve ever had,” said Alex, who has already signed on to 20 wishes in her time as a volunteer. “His name is Aiden and he was very shy at first, but as soon as I asked him about his wish, he really opened up and it was amazing to see the change in him.”
“Drawing is Aiden’s passion and he wished to have a tablet, so he's able to draw a lot more now and whenever he wants to. Since then, I've kept in contact with his family and tell him to remember us when he's working at Pixar!” said Alex, with a laugh.
While her biggest takeaway is definitely seeing the smiles on kids’ faces, Alex also really enjoys getting to know new people throughout the wish granting process.
“I work in Active Duty Air Force, so life can be busy and stressful, but everyone at Make-A-Wish Arizona goes out of their way to help you with anything you need,” she said. “The volunteers are there if you need advice, the wish managers are phenomenal, and I’m extremely fortunate to have this opportunity.”
In fact, as soon as Alex comes home from one wish send-off, she doesn’t hesitate to sign up for another wish.
“Working with kids has always been my true passion in life, and through Make-A-Wish Arizona, I am able to grant children their one true wish!” she said. “It's hard to describe something that brings so much joy to people, but some wish requests leave me speechless and to see them happen is even more breathtaking.”
Alex, who has also volunteered for events like the Airline Miles Drive telethon and Wish Ball, says this is just the beginning and looks forward to continuing her work with Make-A-Wish Arizona.
“Whatever you are able to give, it feels good to do good as a team,” she said. “This has truly been an amazing year and I can’t wait to see what the future brings!”
"If I could have my one true wish, I would eat the best food from every country with my dad. I love food."
