“I knew I wanted to be more involved in my community, but I just didn’t know what to do,” Krizia said. “Then when I was researching different charities and nonprofits, I saw that Make-A-Wish started in Arizona. Given my love for Arizona combined with my love of kids, it was the perfect fit.”
Krizia started volunteering as a Make-A-Wish Arizona wish granter in 2014. Her first wish still stands out to her as a special moment in her life.
“I’ll never forget my first wish,” Krizia said. “It was a little boy named Luis who wanted to go to Disneyland, and I helped plan it and put it all together. It was just an incredible feeling getting to bring some sunshine into the lives of Luis and his family.”
Since then, Krizia has been hooked. She has now granted six wishes and is in the process of completing another three.
“I’ve had so many fun, creative wishes that I’ve had the pleasure of working on,” said Krizia, who granted one girl’s wish to be a mermaid and another boy’s wish to have an ultimate gamer set-up in his room. She’s currently working with wish kid Piper to make her wish to become a published author come true.
“That’s my favorite part about volunteering with Make-A-Wish Arizona. It’s so hands-on. You get to actually do something that makes a difference, and then be there to see how happy it makes them.”
In addition to her work at Make-A-Wish Arizona, Krizia is involved with animal-related organizations Lucky Huskies Rescue and Best Friends Animal Society. She plans to start volunteering at Phoenix Children’s Hospital with her certified therapy dog, Paisley — that way she can meet and help encourage families to consider Make-A-Wish.
“Paisley is so wonderful with children, so I think she can bring a lot of sunshine to the lives of wish kids,” she continued. “I just have a special place in my heart for animals and kids.”
