6 Lessons I Learned From My Internship

2019 Spring Intern class
Each semester, many of our interns travel from across the country to intern at Make-A-Wish Arizona. Whether you’re starting a new internship or leaving your current one - here are some pieces of advice our spring interns have learned that may help you along your professional journey.
 Alexa

Stronger communication skills

"Working with donors and helping schools fundraise through Wish Weeks have helped me grow these skills, both written and verbal, to better communicate with our donors. This is a skill I can take with me to any future job. I’m thankful I gained these skills while raising awareness about Make-A-Wish and constantly recognizing our donors.”

 Taylor

The importance of time management

"I had a lot of important projects to work on each day, and I had to really consider how much time each task would take. This helped me learn how to prioritize and manage my time wisely.”

 Helen

How to be patient

"When I was trying to contact different people about a story, some of them responded right away, while others are busy and take a little bit longer to share their story. I’ve had to learn how to be patient with people and how to be flexible with their different schedules.”

 Andrew How to overcome challenges
"Throughout my semester here, I discovered that planning a wish for a child and their family can be a tumultuous process and every wish is different. Make-A-Wish Arizona was an excellent environment to overcome these challenges and grow professionally.”

Veronica

A greater sense of professionalism

"Throughout my journey as the Corporate Development Intern at Make-A-Wish Arizona, I now have a better understanding on how to perform in a professional setting. For instance, communicating with corporate sponsors, sending professional emails and networking with others.”

 Ayrianna

Appreciation in the workplace

"One key thing that I take away from my experience is that everyone was so kind. So many times, corporate America can be very tough for no reason at all. At Make-A-Wish Arizona, everyone was so appreciative of our time here and I think I will take that wherever I go.”
