She had been familiar with Make-A-Wish Arizona, attending fundraisers and sharing wish kid stories through her role as news director at KVOA-TV in Tucson.
“I was honored when I was asked to be a member of the Board of Directors for the chapter,” said Cathie. “It was important to me to know I could use my position and my contacts in Tucson to increase awareness about what wishes can do for kids with critical illnesses.”
This past year, Cathie was instrumental in hosting the first airline miles telethon in Tucson. “Airline miles are extremely important for Make-A-Wish, as they help wish kids visit places all across the world,” said Cathie. “This event was monumental for a small city like Tucson. I really think it showed people that Tucson did have the ability to make a huge impact,” she continued.
One of Cathie’s favorite memories as a board member was being part of a debut for a child’s wish. Cathie said, “We were able to share the wish on our news station. It was really a special touch for this wish kid, and I was so grateful to be able to be a part of it.”
Cathie hopes to make a large impact with her position on the board. She said her goal is to grant a wish for every eligible child in Arizona.
“Seeing the look on the wish kids’ faces is absolutely indescribable. We are in a place where we are able to help, so we should help,” she said. “Wishes are so important to these kids and their families, and you can really make a difference in someone’s life.”
