Peter Dillon has granted 10 wishes in his experience as a Make-A-Wish Arizona wish granter, but it all started with one little girl’s wish to go to Walt Disney World.
“Remie loves to sing and dance and she is so resilient and strong,” said Peter. “It was a great experience for me to get to know her and her love for Disney princesses, and I was paired with an experienced wish granting partner, Ruby Reyes, who helped me a lot. I think all first-time wish granters should be paired with someone to be able to watch and learn from them.”
“The initial meeting of the family and wish kid is just…amazing,” he continued. “As a wish granter, you gain an appreciation for what the child is going through and get to see how happy they are finding out their wish is finally coming true.”
Before his big move to Arizona, Peter worked with the Make-A-Wish Hudson Valley chapter in 2015.
“Ever since I retired in 2014, I knew I wanted to bring happiness to those who need it,” said Peter, who was awarded Volunteer of the Month because of his passion for every wish he grants.
“It’s the positive energy that comes out of wish granting that makes it worth doing.”
One of Peter’s most memorable wishes was a wish to go to Japan. Peter remembers this wish as being such an impact for the wish kid and a true showcase for all of what Make-A-Wish did for the child and their family.
“After some of these wishes you realize ‘wow Make-A-Wish will really do anything they can to help out a child.’”
Outside of Peter’s volunteer role at Make-A-Wish Arizona, he helps grant the wishes of Arizona fur friends. Peter gives back to the community a few times a week at the Arizona Animal Welfare League.
Make-A-Wish Arizona thanks Peter Dillon for his dedication to volunteering, you truly are appreciated.
