“My husband and I give to a food bank in Tucson but we wanted to do more to help kids in our community,” said Judy, who began donating twice annually to Make-A-Wish Arizona shortly after meeting Board Member, Pam Crim.
“I don’t know if I would have connected with Make-A-Wish if it wasn’t for her, but looking back on the last few years I’m so glad I did,” she continued.
In addition to donating to Make-A-Wish Arizona, Judy decided to become more involved as a volunteer wish granter and has already granted more than 20 wishes.
“I think my favorite part about Make-A-Wish is that it includes the whole family,” she said. “People are involved with organizations for different reasons, but I feel so connected because I get to work directly with the kids and families I’m helping, so I can see where my money goes.”
“The fact that I’m helping locally in Tucson also makes a difference to me,” she continued.
One of Judy’s most memorable moments with Make-A-Wish was helping grant a young girl’s wish to be a popstar and record a music video.
“I found a studio in Tucson that offered to donate dance lessons for Isabel and her siblings and I went to every rehearsal and learned the dance, too! A lot of kids choose to travel somewhere so this was one of the first wishes I was able to be a part of and see first-hand,” she said. “Granting her wish and being there that day is something I will never forget.”
Judy is proud she’s able to grant wishes as both a donor and volunteer and says her experience with Make-A-Wish Arizona has truly enriched her life.
“I feel like Santa Claus, I just want to give kids everything and it amazes me how much a wish can really change lives.”
