6-year-old Angelique may live in Arizona, but she has always thought of herself as princess Elsa from Disney’s Frozen, surrounded by snow and ice.
“She loves to watch the movie and sing the songs,” said her dad, Cecil. “Disney cartoons are a big part of our family nights.”
After going to San Diego for her brother Alexander’s wish last year, Angelique decided she too would travel for her wish. But this time, she wished to take her family to the magical place where her favorite princess, Elsa, lives.
“Our volunteers provided updates all time about Angelique’s wish and, once it was officially happening, they made a paper chain to help her count down the days until her wish,” said Cecil. “We were so excited to go on this trip as a family.”
The family knew a little about wish trips. Angelique and her brother, Alexander, both deal with the same genetic blood disorder and he had a wish to travel to see animals a few months before. However; this time, the wish was all about Angelique.
The moment Angelique arrived at Disneyland, she was treated to a princess Elsa makeover at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique.
“It was wonderful. They gave Angelique a blue dress and a tiara and she was so in awe during her meeting with Elsa and Anna. They spent so much time with her and they were so kind,” he said. “We could skip all the lines for the rides and Disney had a special lounge for Make-A-Wish families, which was so helpful for our kids to have a place to rest and hydrate.”
“I loved meeting princess Elsa and I met Daisy and Minnie and Donald Duck!” said Angelique.
In addition to Disney, Angelique enjoyed the character breakfasts at her hotel and visited Universal Studios and Knotts Berry Farm. But it was the little things that she remembers most.
“I had a chocolate cupcake with sprinkles that looked like Mickey Mouse,” said Angelique, when asked about her favorite part of the week. “It was so good! My mom took a picture of it!”
“The whole experience was incredible, and it was so reassuring that Make-A-Wish took care of every detail,” said Cecil. “Angelique is such a happy kid already, but on her wish, she was in full princess mode.”
Now that they are back, Angelique has not forgotten her wish. In fact, she incorporates the special presents she received from Elsa and Anna into her morning and bedtime routine.
“She wants to wear her princess Elsa dress every day and she takes their book to bed with her and reads it every night,” said Cecil. “We call our wish trips the ‘greatest vacations ever’ because they were so personalized and focused around each kid, but there was something for everyone and we all ended up having the best time.”
