- Rebekkah's mom, Katie

Similar to other kids her age, Rebekkah is a happy, energetic 9-year-old girl who loves Disney princesses and eating cheese pizza. But Rebekkah is also a kid who spends a lot of her time in and out of the hospital, because of the life-threatening heart condition she is battling every day.

“Shortly after she was born, doctors found a hole in Bekkah’s heart,” said her mom, Katie. “It’s been really hard for her dealing with her cardiac problems and the blood disorder she faces, but she always tries to be optimistic with the help of her seven brothers and sisters.”

Bekkah was having an especially hard time in the hospital as her condition kept getting worse, when a social worker mentioned Make-A-Wish to Bekkah’s parents. It was not until her doctors found out a big surgery had failed that her parents looked into getting involved with Make-A-Wish Arizona.

“It was so heartbreaking to go through everything to find out it didn’t work. Her morale was low and we were running out of ideas to keep her happy,” said Katie. “The day Bekkah learned her wish was being granted, she was at lowest point we had ever seen her.”

But when Bekkah heard the news her wish was coming true, everything changed.

“Within minutes of finding out the great news from Make-A-Wish, Rebekkah’s whole outlook changed, and her heart immediately started to slow down back to a normal resting heart rate,” said Katie.

From there on out, whenever Bekkah was having a rough day, she would look up pictures of Walt Disney World and it would always put a smile on her face, no matter what her health issues were that day. Bekkah and her family would spend hours in the hospital planning out which princesses they were going to see and what rides they were going to experience.

“Knowing she was going to Disney made all the difference to Bekkah. Going to the hospital became more bearable knowing she could plan out some of her wish while she was there,” Katie said.

Once it was time for Rebekkah’s big trip, her family traveled to Florida with excitement.

“I was able to feel like a real princess after going to Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique,” said Bekkah, where her fairy godmother, Julie, was a wish recipient when she was a kid!

“And I loved the Pillow Tree at the Give Kids the World Resort. That was one of my favorite parts!”

It was also so special that Bekkah’s seven siblings were able to be a part of her wish trip.

“Most kids with Bekkah’s condition don’t make it past their teenage year – being able to experience her wish together was truly miraculous and made us feel like such a strong family,” said Katie.

Rebekkah is now in 4th grade, where she is in the announcement club and loves doing the morning broadcasts at her school. She loves telling all of her friends about her trip and all of the cool things she did while she was at Walt Disney World.

After having her wish, Bekkah has devoted her time to help Make-A-Wish reach future wish kids. Over the holiday season, she had a booth where her classmates were able to write letters to Santa in support of the Macy’s Make-A-Wish Believe campaign. For every letter they wrote, Macy’s donated $1 to Make-A-Wish.

“I had the best trip ever,” she said. “I just want to give back to the people who made my wish come true!”
