For Blue, who lives with a life-threatening form of muscular dystrophy, his one true wish was all about entering a world that he knew like the back of his hand, but had never seen in person – the wonderful world of Cars, including his favorite character, Lightning McQueen.
“Blue has always loved Cars so he knew his wish had to be wherever Cars was,” said mom Gini. That love of Cars had Blue, Gini, dad Jason and Blue’s seven siblings, ranging from age 3 to 18, heading to Disneyland® for the Cars Land experience.
The family spent some time at the Cars Land and they did, with Blue riding most rides six or seven times. And Blue experienced happiness beyond his typical sunny disposition through his wish adventure.
“We spent two days at Disneyland and everyone treated us so special, it was great,” said Gini. However, it was the little things that happened beyond Cars Land that stick out in Gini’s mind.
Like the first time Blue dipped his toes in the ocean, or the first time Blue had his own bed in a hotel room, or how Blue reacted when he met Buzz Lightyear.
“This trip was just magical, a chance for all of us to be together as a family and to really have fun,” said Gini. “There were many times when I could barely hold back tears, but it was still the best trip ever.”
The trip included a limo ride (another family first) and multiple hotel rooms for the 10 person family (a first on a vacation), as well as an entire day relaxing at the ocean and playing in the water. However, when you ask Blue about his wish experience, he still has a one-track mind.
“I loved the Tower of Terror and the fireworks and the water show and meeting Buzz Lightyear,” said Blue. “I was in the ocean and it was cold and I rode California Screaming two times and I got to build a red lightsaber, [but] all the Cars parts were my favorite. We got to go back two separate times and I rode the rides six times. It was my favorite of everything.”
