“ It was a bit of a whirlwind and things happend so fast. We learned she qualified for a wish and it was nice to know there was something good on the horizon. It gave us something to look forward to. ”

Josephine, diagnosed with a genetic condition when she was two years old, has always admired the “warrior princesses” in Disney movies like Moana, Mulan and Pocahontas.

Last year, Josephine watched these movies to take her mind off her surgeries and difficult treatments.

“It was all a bit of a whirlwind and things happened so fast,” said her mom, Colleen. “We learned she qualified for a wish and it was nice to know there was something good on the horizon. It gave us something to look forward to.”

The family spent time thinking about their wish options, and Josephine decided a Disney Cruise Line cruise was the perfect wish.

“She could go to the beach and she could be surrounded by her favorite Disney characters,” Colleen said. “I think that the cruise was something that combined all of her interests.”

“We ran into Belle, Rapunzel, Tiana, Cinderella and then Anna and Elsa at a restaurant. They were all cool, but I really liked Tiana,” Josephine said.

Along with meeting the princesses, Josephine enjoyed a private meeting with Mickey Mouse, plus she met eight other wish families on the ship.

“We did become friends with one of the families and we watched movies in the theater together. No one really knows what you have been through, so meeting a family who has been through something equally difficult and knowing there is someone else out there that understands you and you can speak candidly with was refreshing,” Colleen said.

”I know that Josephine will look back on her wish and remember the good times we all had together,” said Colleen.

“The cruise has been a positive experience for the three of us. We stopped thinking about work and medical care and therapy. We just got to be a family together.”

Now Josephine has a new opportunity to look forward to – the Make-A-Wish Arizona Wish Ball—where she will be a guest of Discover, the corporate partner who also sponsored her wish.

“One of the biggest things I’m looking forward to is dancing. I love dancing and I’m good at it,” Josephine said.

“We are excited for her, she has never been to any formal event like this and we are looking forward to supporting the organization that made her wish come true,” Colleen said.
