Venus always knew Disneyland was her go-to wish destination because she wanted to meet all her favorite princesses. But from her perspective, things like “dreams” and “wishes” only existed in movies.
“Venus’ actual words at the beginning of the process were ‘wishes don’t come true’,” said her mom, Joanna. “She was born with a congenital heart disease and she’s had so many doctors appointments and treatments, she always had the thought that nothing like this would ever happen to her.”
When Venus found out her wish was possible, she was shocked. It turned out a trip to Disneyland and a transformation at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique was exactly what she needed.
“Venus was so thrilled,” said Joanna. “They did her hair, makeup, nails, and gave her a crown. She got to become the princess she’s always wanted to be.”
Venus, along with her mom, sister and grandmother, was able to enjoy days at Disneyland and California Adventure parks, plus Knott’s Berry Farm and Universal Studios.
“My favorite part was going on the Star Wars Ride and meeting so many princesses and characters like Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, and Pluto,” said Venus. “It was exciting and awesome!”
Beneath the costumes, hair and makeup, Joanna says she saw her daughter truly transform on the inside.
“For once she was getting positive attention, not about her feeling sick, and she said she felt like a normal kid,” said Joanna. “She enjoyed every second and it’s an amazing thing to see your child experience this. I don’t even have words to explain it, seeing her happy was all I wanted,” she said.
Since her wish, the memories Venus made have helped her to stay positive every day.
“When she is scared or nervous she just reverts back to her wish to help her get through something,” she said. “Venus has learned how to better deal with her health conditions and it’s brought us so much faith and hope. Now she tells me ‘mom, dreams do come true’ and it’s the best feeling to see Venus finally believe it, too.”
