Diagnosed with stage four Wilms tumor at 4-years-old, wish kid Keaton’s family felt like he had lost a little of his spark while he was dealing with treatment and recovery.

“He just wasn’t himself,” said Ashley, Keaton’s mom. “He didn’t want to do the things he used to do and wasn’t interested in the things that he used to love.”

It was when Keaton was told he qualified for a wish, that they saw his spark again.

“Before his wish, Keaton would go camping with his grandma in her travel trailer all of the time,” said Ashley. “During treatment, he wasn’t allowed to camp due to infection. So, when he wished to have his own trailer, it came as no surprise. His love language is quality time, and his trailer gives us the opportunity for all kinds of family time.”

Keaton’s family managed to keep his wish a secret until the day of the reveal, and his reaction was unforgettable.

“He had just woken up from a nap in the car and was trying to figure out what was going on,” said Ashley. “Then his eyes lit up in disbelief, and I saw him come alive again. It was like he saw it as a prize for finishing treatment.”

Keaton’s favorite part about his trailer was not what anyone would expect.

“He walked right inside to check out his wish,” Ashley said. “He immediately shouted out his excitement about the bathroom. That was his favorite part of the whole thing, it was really funny and exciting to watch.”

Keaton takes the ownership of his new trailer – that he has since named “BooBoo” - very seriously, with a set of rules that were created as soon as he stepped inside.

“I have rules,” Keaton said. “My trailer, my rules, so you have to follow them,” he explained to all his family.

And Keaton cherishes everything, both big and small. A close second to the trailer bathroom for Keaton’s favorite part of his wish experience, is his “Wish Kid” t-shirt. He fell in love with the shirt and plans to hang it up somewhere in his trailer to commemorate this experience.

“We have already gone camping four times, and every time we do, he relives his wish.” she said. “Keaton knows he gets quality time with our family because of what Make-A-Wish Arizona did for him.”

Since his wish, Keaton is spending more time outdoors and thriving health-wise.

In addition to the lasting impact this wish experience has had on Keaton, he has begun saving his allowance, to donate and help other kids who are battling cancer.

“He is so much fun to be around and such a great kid who really enjoys life,” said Ashley.
